A fter nearly a decade of growing the game from the ground up, Joey Messina, Nic Nazon, and Vince Lalaeu are stepping into higher leadership roles at Space Coast United – and there’s never been a more exciting time for the club. All three directors started their SCU journeys as young coaches, grew through the ranks, and never left – proving that dedication, passion, and belief in a shared vision can drive real transformation. From coaching on local fields to traveling to Wales together to earn their UEFA licenses, their story is one of growth, grit, and lifelong commitment to the SCU family. Joey Messina – Girls Director ⚽️ UEFA B Licensed Currently taking USSF B Certified Football Coach Evolution (FCE) Expert – trained by Raymond Verheijen Known for "coaching his daughters into a pair of centerbacks" – maybe a joke, maybe not Joey has seen it all on the girls' side – from humble beginnings in GCF, to breaking through into ECNL-RL, and now competing at one of the highest levels of club soccer: the Girls Academy. A massive credit goes to Scott Armstrong, our clubs director, whose vision and relentless effort were instrumental in bringing Girls Academy to SCU. Joey’s mission? “To create an environment that supports wholistic player development — building not just great players, but impactful members of their teams, clubs, families, Brevard County, and the world.” Nic Nazon – Foundation Director ⚽️ We’re proud to welcome Nic Nazon back home as Foundation Director! Nic’s coaching roots run deep at SCU – he’s been a part of the family for years and brings a wealth of experience: Current Viera High School Varsity Boys Head Coach EFSC Men’s Assistant Coach USSF D License, UEFA B Licensed 2025 All Cape Coast Conference Boys Coach of the Year Nic is passionate about building from the ground up – and with his leadership, our youngest players are in the best hands to develop both on and off the field. Vince Lalaeu – Boys Director ⚽️ Another SCU homegrown story: Vince went from youth player to professional athlete, and now returns as Boys Director. His coaching credentials speak for themselves: UEFA B License Irish Football Federation C License USSF D License Vince understands the SCU journey from every angle – as a player, coach, and now leader – and he's ready to raise the bar for the boys' program. What’s Next? With Joey, Nic, and Vince leading the way – and nearly a decade of shared history behind them – SCU is ready for its next evolution. These three leaders have seen how far the club has come, and they’re more fired up than ever to take it even further. From the grassroots to the global stage — the future is bright at Space Coast United.
