U.S. Under-18 WNT Finishes Ten Nations Tournament with a 2-1 Record

The U.S. Under-18 Women’s National Team completed its three games in the Ten Nations Tournament in La Manga, Spain with a 2-1 record. The U.S. opened the tournament with a 3-1 win against Sweden behind goals from SCUSC's Katie Stengel, Chioma Ubogagu and Rachel Nuzzolese. They then pushed their record to 2-0 after defeating Germany 1-0 on an own goal from a Stengel cross in the 11th minute. The third and final match would see the U.S. fall 1-0 to Norway. Catherine Dekkerhus scored just 55 seconds into the match, but the lone goal was sufficient to secure the win for the Nordic nation as the U.S. could not muster a comeback in their third game in five days.

Disney Presidents Day Champions

Our Space Coast U15 Girls Premier team coached by Rob Pedrick made it to the finals at the Disney Presidents Day Weekend Tournament.

Our Storm team began by beating Strictly Futbol Select 3-0. We then took on a big physical Euro Select team (Illinois) ending with a 0-0 draw. Next was Florida Rush whom we beat 3-1. We ended  first in our group. This put us into the Championship game against East Orange who were 2nd in our group.

East Orange scored first to make it 1-0 at the half. With the wind and the sun at our backs we came through for a 2-1 win. Kaley Ward, a guest player from St. Cloud had two assists across the mouth of the goal for Jessica Smith to put into the back of the goal for the win.

This team has won 3 out of 4 tournament Championships entered this seasonal year and made the semi - finals in the other.

A lot to be said for our U15 Girls Premier team. Notice how the "gold" seems to shine out for the girls...

Tragic Event in Haiti

Dear SCUSC Club Member,

SCUSC club members have, like most everyone else, been watching the terrible news from Haiti this week.  For one member of the SCUSC family, the news was especially tragic.

Long time SCUSC coach Fidgi Haig, coach of our U15 and U18 girls State Cup teams, learned today that his father lost his life in Tuesday's earthquake.  Additionally, his mother and younger sister are in need of medical attention, and his parents home has been destroyed.  His other family members are fine, but have obviously experienced significant loss.

A camp for kids, is being sponsored by Kalli Kamholz-Ecker and Courtney Lundy (Baines), on Jan 30th 9 -12 at Viera Regional Park.  This will be a tremendous fund raiser as there is significant interest in the local soccer community to participate.  We expect some pretty high-level college coaches, other local coaches and celebrities, as well as current/former players to participate.  For Details..

Check donations payable to "Fitzgerald Haig" for the Haig family can be mailed to:

   Fidgi and Dad
             Fitzgerald Haig
             P.O. Box 33806
             Indialantic, Florida  32903

**Becca Haig is currently working with her bank but is unable to get the Trust savings account opened immediately (lawyers still need to do their thing, which apparently will take some time).  In the interim, donations (checks) should be made directly to FITZGERALD HAIG (not in the name of the trust).

Please join us in praying for the Haig family and all of the children and families devastated by the earthquake in Haiti.

Best Regards,
Space Coast United Soccer Club

Congratulations

Kevin Montes and Katie Stengel

These two superior soccer atheletes practiced and worked hard to successfully earn themselves a top ODP spot.
Details...

Kevin Montes, our U16 Mens Elite team goalkeeper (and FYSA '94 Mens State team goalkeeper), was called up to play with the '94 Region 3 team at the recent '94 Winter Interregionals, held in conjunction with the Disney College Showcase.  This is the first goalkeeper ever from Space Coast United to be so honored, placing him in a group of goalkeepers considered to be one of the top 10 in that age group in the country.

Katie Stengel recently attended the Region 3 '92 girls camp in Mississippi, and was selected to attend the U18 Women's National Team camp held in January at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California. She is one of only 24 women selected nationally to attend this camp.
