2020 Spring Rec Return to Play, Credits and Refunds
Returning to Play
On May 5, 2020 the Florida Youth Soccer Association (FYSA) Board of Directors met to address FYSA’s plan to return-to-play amid the Coronavirus pandemic. Please be advised the below procedures were adopted by the Board of Directors and are effective immediately. All FYSA members shall be expected to adhere to these timelines and procedures:
- Lifting of Mandatory Suspension Criteria-Trigger: Majority of Counties within the State is authorized to enter Phase 3 of Governor Ron Desantis' plan.
- Commensurate with the start of Florida Phase 3, a two-week period during which practice is permitted but no other activities would be allowed, unless precluded by local guidance or further action by the Governor. This is to allow time for local authorities to reopen parks, clubs to plan tryouts, and leagues to develop schedules.
- All sanctioned activity to include In-person tryouts would be permitted to begin 14 days from the start of Florida Phase 3, unless precluded by local guidance or further action by the Governor.
Space Coast United's Plan
It is Space Coast United’s intent to have a modified season during the summer, once Brevard County Parks and Recreation opens the parks. We have been in touch with other local clubs and they are willing to participate in this modified season. Although we do not have an “open” date, we are confident we will have enough time to complete the modified season prior to August.
In an effort to make up for the lost spring season, Space Coast United will be offering all spring season registered recreational players a credit to attend our Summer Camp and a credit to attend our Pathways program (see more below). If you are unable to attend either camp or Pathways, a refund will be issued. As Space Coast United has incurred costs associated with the canceled Spring season, a partial refund will be made (registration fee less $25 administrative fee). If you received a new uniform for Spring season, the refund will be reduced by an additional $20. If you attend either Summer Camp or Pathways, but not both, the refund will be adjusted for the cost of the program not attended.
Summer Camp is scheduled for June and July if Viera Regional Park is open for play. We plan to hold a 5-day program. See our Camps Page here.
What is Pathways? The Pathways program supplements our Fall and Spring seasons to provide training and activity in the transition months. Pathways compliments the Rec program by training players in distinctive individual skills and ball mastery. It puts the focus on the individual player rather than team play. Pathways runs between the Fall and Spring seasons. The Pathways credit is a $60 value.
This shutdown has obviously placed a financial burden on the club and our Financial Aid program may be impacted. Space Coast United's Financial Aid program allows young players to play a season who otherwise would not have been able to. If you will not be using your credits, you can donate them to the Financial Aid Fund to help a player in need. SCUSC is a 501(c) non-profit organization.
The request for refund period has now expired. Spring Rec players receive a credit for a week of Summer Camp and the 6-week Pathways Program.
