Current Board Members up for Re-election
My name is Breanne Brown and I'd like to be considered for another term on the Board at Space Coast United Soccer Club. I served previously and acknowledge being a board member isn't just about having a voice within the club; it's about selflessly volunteering my time and working in a variety of ways to support both the children and families as well as the coaches, staff and directors at SCU. In addition to attending every scheduled meeting, I worked actively on the sponsorship and grievance committees.
Being an SCU board member requires one to serve without pride nor prejudice. You must have the ability to objectively view matters while leaving your personal agenda aside. You must work collaboratively with others on a variety of issues while supporting the club's mission. I believe I have the above-mentioned qualities and have proven my ability to be an asset to the Space Coast United Family.
Kevin Koegel, his wife Claire and children Catherine and Jack have lived in Viera since August of 2010. He transferred to this area from New York with Northrop Grumman. Kevin played competitive soccer in his youth. In addition, he was an All-League Center Mid Fielder his senior year of high school and played collegiately for 4 years at the State University of New York (SUNY), College at Cortland. Kevin received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics from SUNY Cortland and completed a Master of Science Degree in Management from St. Joseph's College of New York.
Kevin and Claire's children have gone through the recreation and competitive programs at Space Coast United. In addition, Kevin's father was the President of the soccer club that he played for growing up, which provides him with a unique understanding of the time it takes to run a soccer club.
Kevin has been a board member since 2011 and the current President of the Space Coast United Soccer Club Board of Directors for the past three years. During this time, the club has grown significantly in players for the recreational and competitive programs and the level of league competition (e.g., BYSL to NPL to ECNL). He is looking to continue to support the Space Coast United Soccer Club and assist in its continued growth.
I have served on the Space Coast United Board for the past 3 years. During that time, I was involved in the COVID reopening plan, the team manager for both the boys and girls team for 6 years, field marshal for the Space Coast Cup and ECNL events. Additionally, we have 3 children in the club.
In addition to being a lifelong resident of Brevard County, I am a board member of HBCA-Brevard, associate member of TCBA and ECF Florida. I have previously served on AAU-Florida board for baseball.
My reasoning to continue as a board member is to work on the continued growth of the club and build on the stability provided by previous members. As a board member, we need to guarantee there are programs and opportunities for children of all ages and skill levels. We need to listen to our member’s voices and evaluate those as an opportunity for positive change.
New Board Candidates
Hello, my name is Allie Goff and I am running for a position on the SCUSC board of directors. I grew up in Brevard county playing youth soccer and graduating from Eau Gallie High school. I attended the University of Central Florida where I graduated with my B.S. in Business Administration. While attending UCF, I was a 4-year starter on the Women’s soccer team, a two-year captain, and named as a scholar All American my senior year. After graduation, I played 3 years in the women’s semi-professional soccer league with the Central Florida Krush and then the Cocoa Expos. I also jumped right into coaching youth soccer which has been one of the most rewarding experiences for me being able to positively impact young athletes' lives and watching them grow as players and people.
I have been involved with SCUSC since 2005 where I have coached all levels and ages within the club. Currently, I am finishing coaching our U11 Girls Red team as well as both of my boy’s rec teams. I have three children who play within the club and we have been a part of every program the club has offered from 3 years old to our highest competitive teams. In 2018 I was also named the US Youth Soccer Girls Rec Coach of the year.
I am a Director of Finance at L3Harris where I have been employed for the last 14 years. I have held many positions within the finance organization and am currently a director of financial planning and analysis overseeing a segment generating $5B / year in revenue. As a leader within my organization, I promote accountability, integrity, and respect and look to embody these characteristics in my everyday life, whether professionally or personally. I believe in being authentic and taking ownership, empowerment, and fostering open communication and collaboration.
As mentioned earlier, I have a passion for coaching youth soccer. I would like to take this passion into being an advocate for these players at a higher level and feel I have the right attributes to represent the club with the highest integrity and focus to drive growth and success.
I believe I would be an essential asset to the Space Coast United Soccer Club Board of Directors. In the past 25 years, both professionally and personally, I have sought out ownership and leadership roles. Thru these various positions, I have excelled in skills such as project management, customer service, negotiation and accountability.
I have a huge passion for youth sports and believe they have a strong role in preparing the younger generation for life by teaching them character, integrity, teamwork, and work ethic. I have personally experienced this by watching my, now 12-year-old, son grow through coordinated sports activities.
I found the passion for soccer back when my son started playing at the age of 5 on a local Chicago team. I have volunteered every year as the Team Manager since that day (7 years, 14 seasons). Some responsibilities included (but not limited to):
- Team Communications
- Team Schedule (Go to league scheduling meeting Schedule all games for 10 seasons)
- Assist Coach
Being part of this great community made me want to take it a step further and join our Chicago club’s Soccer Community Organization. This was a great way to stay engaged and give back:
- Coordinated fundraising efforts to provide soccer scholarships and programs for kids.
- Team leader for Breast Cancer Awareness program and the Gift a Mammogram for Women.
- Lead Thanksgiving food drives that provided over 100 meals for families in need.
- Lead member of golf committee for the organization’s largest yearly fundraiser.
I believe I can bring the same focus, dedication, and passion to this organization. I look forward to the opportunity and challenges of being able to serve on the Space Coast United Soccer Club Board of Directors.
Space Coast families - My name is Kelli McGuire and my family and I have been with the Space Coast United family for over 6 years. I am the wife of a competitive soccer coach with the club (Geoff), mother of a competitive team player (Nathan 11) and of a recreational player (Mallory 7). I would be a great addition to the board because my family has participated in a little bit of everything with the club.
We have been through mini-kickers, pathways, recreation programs, competitive programs, goalkeeping practices, spring break and summer camps, and helping out when needed for coaching clinics. I have been a recreation coach, team parent, team manager and wife of a coach with the club. Through my kids, we have been on the white team, the red team and the recreation teams. I know what it is like to live, eat and breathe soccer for months on end. And I also know what it is like to have a kid who likes soccer and other sports too. I feel I would be able to give meaningful and insightful information about the club because I have had many different perspectives.
I have a bachelor's degree in Recreation, Parks and Tourism. I have been an activities director at a local nursing home for 17 years. My responsibilities include overseeing the monthly activities offered, lead committees of interdisciplinary team members to come up with solutions and implement ideas, and work closely with community partners.
During COVID closure, I took on an active role in communicating with all resident families, implementing new procedures and was a reliable leader during uncertain times. Created and implemented a visitation schedule that allowed visitation safely and efficiently to meet the needs of my residents. I am an integral part of daily team meetings where we have to come together as a team to make the best decisions for individuals, groups of people and as a business.
The easiest path is not always the best path and you have to be willing to ask questions. I will ask questions and I will listen to answers. I will come to the table not with problems, but solutions. We learn the best by talking to others and gaining perspective. I will admit when I am wrong and apologize for misunderstandings. Above all, I am fair, honest and kind. I would be honored to assist our club to continue to grow to the next level.
I have a deep love for the sport and experience that I believe will be a great addition to the club. I was born in Greece, where I first learned to play, and continued in England and high school here locally in Melbourne. I have coached soccer for over 13 years at the local high school level; two years as an assistant girls’ coach and 11 years as the head varsity boys’ soccer coach at Heritage High School. With this position I have sought to better myself and my knowledge of the sport and have attained the D, E, and F soccer license. I know that E and F are no longer required but when I started you had to have each one in order. I have two sons, ages 9 and 6, that are currently growing up in the SCUSC and are having a great experience. I have coached both in the recreational program here and want to continue to be a part of their development, along with the other children I have come to know. My oldest is now playing U9 comp and my youngest is in the All-Star Program.
I have a great foundational knowledge of the sport and am always looking for ways to improve and continue learning. I have this mindset as I coach my high school team, as well as when I help my boys to improve their knowledge and skill of the game.
Soccer, along with other sports, was a highlight of my childhood and even carried me into my collegiate career. I believe participation in sports is vital to our youth’s development and they will make memories here that will last them a lifetime.
I believe that my experience and current involvement in the sport would be a great addition to the board and club. I am excited for the opportunity to be a part of guiding the club going forward and to help provide the best experience for my children as well as all members of SCUSC.
I am Megan Beecham, a new member to the Space Coast community as of April 2021. An unfamiliar face to you all, however no stranger to the field and the comradery amidst a team environment. I hope to bring a fresh and energetic vibe to your Club and to serve on the Board of Directors where I can help drive presence in the community through passionate networking and thinking outside of the box to come up with creative solutions for fundraising or community events that help promote the mission of Space Coast United while bringing teammates, family, and friends together.
It wasn't long ago I was in cleats going to practice, tryouts, matches, tournaments, camps, training, and huddles. I was a lifelong Select player in my hometown at Savannah United, coached little league soccer, played varsity 4 years in high school, and in 2008 I was recruited to college with a soccer scholarship, playing varsity while achieving Deans list in the honors program studying Psychology and Business Management.
I am a competitive spirit with strong leadership skills that have brought me much success in the past 8 years of my professional life. From captain of my soccer teams, to planning and managing large events, to selling multi-million dollar projects to top executives; I am a strong speaker, natural leader, dedicated team player, a thorough planner, and thanks to growing up playing soccer: I have the skills to think quickly on my feet to achieve GOALS!
What I lack in years or experience at your club, I give to you in passionate energy that has a clear focus and new ideas on how we can all succeed together. I would be thrilled to serve your community in any way as I recently moved to the Space Coast with my husband and our pup, Flynn who you can find @flflynnsta - he is a socialite and would also love to get into the local soccer community to make new friends!
I am a 17 year Brevard county resident and a soccer dad for the past 8 years. My family has been involved with four different Soccer Clubs over the years and participated in every level from Recreational Programs to ENCL. I have over 6 years of experience working as a manager for multiple teams while also managing assistant managers to cover individual team needs.
On the professional side, I am an Electronics Engineer with a local defense contractor. I have also worked in Player Development for a Major League Baseball team assisting the coaching, scouting, and management staff with collecting player performance data.
In my free time I like to go fishing and was a long-term Executive Board member for a local fishing club. I am also a past Chairman of the local Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Now most nights and weekends you can find me at the soccer fields.
The last few years have been very chaotic for club soccer here in Brevard Soccer. I have witnessed successful clubs disintegrate with poor planning and leadership. Much of it had to do with one common factor, communication. Parents have very busy lives and managing jobs while trying to do things for our kids can be very tough. I know that just because a parent isn’t at every practice or game doesn’t mean they aren’t engaged in what goes on in the club. As a board member, I will work to continue the development of our club communications. Ask any parent who has been part of a team I have managed and they will tell you communications were always a strong point of our group.
With my years of experience as a team manager and as an Executive Board member of different organizations I bring experience with me to the position to help me start contributing from day one. I look forward to being able to contribute to the continued success of Space Coast United.
My name is Dana Chesser and I am interested in serving on the board for Space Coast United Soccer. I have lived in Brevard County for over 30 years and currently reside in Indialantic with my husband and 2 children. Ethan is currently playing for the U11 white team and Greyson is on a recreational team. I am a teacher currently working for Florida Virtual School where I get to interact with students all over the state. As a family, we love to attend Orlando City games and going to the beach when we are not attending our own children's games.
I believe I would be a great addition to the board as I am passionate about what our club represents and would look forward to promoting our club's values when it comes to the development of the soccer players.
I am excited to have the potential opportunity to serve on the board at Space Coast United Soccer Club. As a long time Brevard resident (born and raised) I believe I can contribute to Board of Directors given my background in business as a CEO and President of a startup company in manufacturing for 25 years. During my youth both my parents served on numerous sports boards to give back to the county youth. Now that I have the opportunity to serve, I feel the same way today.
My family has been with Space Coast United for five years. My wife and I have two children currently playing at the club. We look forward to seeing them grow through the club for many years to come. I am very familiar with the soccer landscape in Brevard and other counties and have been volunteering and contributing to Space Coast United for the past five years.
I am a proud parent to 2 Space Coast United players, most recently participating on the U11/U12 Girls White and U9 Girls Red Competition teams. Prior to this season, I coached in the Recreation program for U8 girls and was assistant coach for a U12 Girls Recreation team.
When not cheering from the sidelines for my girls, I work full time as VP of Finance for a global Telecommunications and Technology company called Speedcast. In this role, I manage the accounting and finance functions with a heavy emphasis on financial planning and analysis and driving profitability within the organization. Prior to Speedcast, I had held a variety of finance and accounting roles at L3Harris and KPMG. I am a CPA with a Masters in Accounting from the University of Georgia and undergraduate degrees in Accounting and Marketing from the Florida State University.
I would like to serve the members of Space Coast United by offering my business acumen to further the mission and growth of SCUSC. I believe that youth sports are a fantastic way to develop the confidence and character in kids and am committed to making SCUSC a great place to foster this development. I’ve been involved with the Club since moving to the Melbourne area and want to help make the Club the best in Brevard.
My name is Janaina Strater and I am interested in serving on the Space Coast Soccer board. A little history about myself, soccer has been a part of my life since I was 14 years old. Growing up in Haslett, Michigan playing all 4 years in high school and 4 years in college, as a goalkeeper. I've participated in many sports growing up, but soccer was always my favorite.
My family has lived in Brevard County since 2006. I am a local business owner of Strater Family Chiropractic since 2008 with my husband Dr. Joe Strater. We have 3 beautiful children, two boys and a girl, that have been a part of the Space Coast program for the last 10 years. This past year our 2 older sons began the 14 U and 13U comp teams. I have watched them grow and become better players during this time and am excited to see what the program will provide for their future.
If chosen to be a board member for the Space Coast program, I promise to support the kids and club. I would like to bring the relationship between the club and our family's to have a sense of comradery in our community. Thank you for your time and consideration. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
My name is Sarah Carpenter. I am a mom and wife, first and foremost but spend quite a bit of my time as a district sales manager for Edward Don & Company. I am originally from Marietta, GA and graduated with a BS in Psychology from The Florida State University. My husband Blake, son Evan and I were lucky enough to move to Melbourne in 2014. I have always had a love for all things sports and have spent most my life on the soccer field as a player, referee, coach and now (full circle) soccer mom. Besides soccer, I love FSU and Falcons football, skiing, travel, the beach and reading. I am a very social person and have no problem public speaking or pushing the envelope to accomplish my goals.
Since moving to Melbourne, I have been looking for the right opportunity to support my community. I have been blessed to be a part of the Space Coast family for six years now. I believe in the commitment of this organization to develop our youth at all levels of play as well as our coaches. The development of teamwork, sportsmanship and confidence are attributes that will help our children grow into successful members of society. I have enjoyed growing our youth through coaching and mentoring and now look forward to another direction for contribution.
I am a self-driven, results-oriented individual and I believe my ability to set and accomplish goals will be an asset to the continual advancement of our organization. I am a strong problem solver and have a proven ability to work collaboratively. In my current professional position, I am responsible for financial reporting, marketing, fundraising and program development, all of which I think are applicable to this position. I am looking forward to learning more about the internal workings of the Space Coast United Soccer Club organization and how I can become a tool for progress. It would be my pleasure to spend my time and focus on the growth of our program. Thank you so much for your consideration.
