Travel/NPL

The Travel/NPL program provides soccer players with the highest level of competition along with the highest level of training. Teams compete in the Florida National Premier League (NPL), a division of US Club Soccer. Participation in the Greater Central Florida League (GCF) qualifies the teams to enter Florida State Cup. While constantly improving through training, this is not a developmental program. Players are committed to all practices, games and tournaments. College Showcases are attended and guidance is provided by the Coach and DOC for college recruitment.

To achieve success at the highest level of competitive soccer demands the highest level of commitment as well.  The decision to play soccer at the NPL level is a choice that needs consideration as to the time, travel and financial commitments.

Time Commitment: Practices 3-times per week starting in August. Some pre-season training sessions may take place in July. Approximately ten NPL games are split between the Fall and Spring season. At least four GCF games will be scheduled. Tournaments/Showcases may include FKK Pre-Season (Aug), Disney Qualifier (Sept), CASL Showcase (Dec), Disney Showcase (Dec), CDL Showcase (Feb), Florida Cup and Florida State Cup, among others.

Financial Commitment: Besides the Space Coast United registration and training fees, teams fees are collected at the team level. These include covering the expenses for tournament fees, coach travel, equipment, scrimmages, Teamsnap and misc team expenses. Fundraising can offset the team fees. Fees vary depending on the tournament schedule and travel destinations. Teams fees can range between $500 and $800 per player.

Understanding US Club and US Youth Soccer

Travel

The Travel program provides soccer players with a high level of competition and training. Teams compete in the Greater Central Florida League (GCF). This program is for those players who have advanced from the Select program but are not yet to an NPL level. It is also for those families who do not desire to commit to the NPL time and financial commitments. Players are monitored for advancement to NPL and some may be dual-rostered to an NPL team.

Tournaments/Showcases may include Disney Qualifier (Sept), Adidas Columbus Day Classic (Oct), Disney Showcase (Dec), CDL Showcase (Feb) and Florida State Cup, among others.

Financial Commitment: Besides the Space Coast United registration and training fees, teams fees are collected at the team level. These include covering the expenses for tournament fees, coach travel, equipment, scrimmages, Teamsnap and misc team expenses. Fundraising can offset the team fees. Select

The Select program provides soccer players with a developmental environment so that they may advance to a higher level of play. It is also a program that allows families who do not desire the commitment of a Travel team to still compete at a high level of competition. Teams compete in the Greater Central Florida League (GCF). Trainers and training are consistent with the level given to Travel teams. The DOC of the Select teams will have an awareness of all players available for movement to Travel the following year. Some Select players may be dual-rostered to Travel teams and/or moved up for State Cup play. Advancement requires the player to demonstrate a commitment to work toward that goal.

Divisions

Senior Division

Ages 15 yrs to 19 yrs
(19-year-olds must be in High School)

The Senior Division contains the upper age teams. The players' increased individual skills and knowledge of game play as developed throughout their years with the program are on full display.

The Coaching Philosophy is to create a very competitive environment that will focus on player development and exposure to the collegiate process. In order to prepare for this goal, the coaching staff has outlined a number of College Showcase events to attend and classroom settings to discuss Academics. Players will be challenged in every aspect of Soccer; our goal is to play a very expansive and attacking style of soccer. Ball movement & speed of play will be a big part of the player’s expectations. The coaching staff will be looking for the players to be proficient in the following areas: Technical, Tactical, Physical and Psychological. Commitment, Accountability & understanding team concepts will be very important aspects of our player selection.

Junior Division

The Junior Division is our competitive program for all players born in the years 2007 (11U) – 2004 (14U).

The Junior Division is an extremely important part of a player’s playing and physical development as it makes the transition from the small-sided game format (7v7 & 9v9) all the way through to the full-sided game at 13U. Because of the differences in physical maturity at these age groups it is vital that the focus is aimed at a player’s decision-making ability and their technical execution rather than the physical. This development stage sees the training change from a more individual focus to more of a team dynamic as more tactical elements are introduced.

Coaching Philosophy:  The philosophy of the Junior Division is to create an environment focused heavily on player development, while ensuring the players compete at their very best at all times. The primary objective of the Junior Division is for every player, regardless of team level, to work at their maximum for every single session and every game, whilst learning their roles and responsibilities within the team function.

Expectations are high for all players at Space Coast in the Junior Division, however, depending on the team level, a commitment to training and playing may differ slightly. All players will be exposed to quality coaching and player movement between teams is possible if deemed appropriate.

Big tournaments demanding numerous games squeezed into a weekend will be kept to a minimum. However, all parents and players need to understand teams in the Junior Division will, at times, be travelling to tournaments and some teams (NPL) will play in a league that may require overnight stays at hotels.

Periodization

The Junior Division at Space Coast SC follows a soccer specific periodization model in order to best ensure a player maximizes their development. This detailed training model is very carefully planned out for the entire year and is designed to ensure each player performs at their absolute maximum all the time and allows the club the opportunity to compete with every club in the state.

Academy Division

Ages 9 yrs to 10 yrs

The Academy Division was designed to challenge and better prepare those players in the Youth Development Program (YDP) for the next level of soccer. In effect we are tiering this group to train together and play against other Clubs with the focus on developing players for the older age groups. Our basic philosophy is that focusing on individual player development with fundamental ball skills, realistic and fair game time and developing players in all areas of the field should be the overriding factors at this age. The Academy Select approach places the emphasis on the player and their individual development and not that of the team. The main focus is technical development without the pressure of short term, result oriented games.

Competitive Program Commitment

The focus will be to develop the players and the team to reach their full potential.  In order to achieve those goals, attendance at practice, games, and tournaments is important. Playing time on the team is earned based on practice and game performances, as well as dictated by the flow of play and opposition in any particular game.  Training will be set up to allow players to develop individually in a group environment. Practices will be structured so that the player will be expected to work hard, enjoy coming to practice, and to spend time on their own outside of practices/games trying to improve their soccer game. All parents and players need to understand that this team will be travelling to tournaments and will play in a league that may require overnight stays at hotels.

All players and parents should be aware of the time commitment required for these teams – These teams are a year-round team and will train three times a week as well as participate in additional technical training sessions and play games on the weekend (Fall/Spring). They will also require various winter and summer training commitments. The number of practices and the requirement for attendance at practices and games will necessitate a very high degree of dedication on the part of all team players and their parents.  If your child is selected and you cannot make such a commitment, please do not accept a spot on the team. One of the other teams should be able to match your ability level and commitment. If you are accepted on a team and cannot maintain your commitments to the team, the coach will limit your playing time to represent your level of commitment in all areas.

Financial Commitment

The Competitive Program is a year-long financial commitment. While registration and training fees may be paid in installments, you are paying for the entire season, not the specific month. SCUSC offers 3-payment and 7-payment plans by e-check or credit card.

With your acceptance of a place on a team you are expected to take the financial responsibility of any monies owed to the team and/or club prior to your departure and no refunds of any description will be given should you break your commitment to the team. This includes corporate and/or individual donations and funds raised. If a player is forced to withdraw after the start of the season as a result of an injury or medical condition, the player may be entitled to a credit for the next SCUSC soccer season. Thank you for your understanding.

Player Sponsorship

We do have a number of players whose families obtained sponsorships on their behalf from area businesses. If you can solicit such sponsorships, we accept business donations designated for specific players' member accounts.

Team Fees

Registration fees cover training, player costs and club operating costs. Team fees cover tournament entry fees, coach travel and other team expenses. These fees vary depending on the tournaments and number of players. The Team fees are collected in installments by the Team Manager and placed in a team account. Please be aware that Team fees are an additional expense beyond the Registration.

As a member of the team, you are expected to be proactive in fundraising, along with the rest of the team families. All funds raised are for the benefit of the team and remain as team funds.

Financial Aid

SCUSC is a 401(c)(3) that operates on an extremely tight budget to keep fees as low as possible to members in an economic climate of ever-rising costs.
