SCU Storm Damage Report: Palm Bay Spring Challenge
Space Coast United had another successful tournament weekend at the recent Palm Bay Spring Challenge. Seventeen club teams entered the tournament, which is now in its 12th year and boasts the largest Spring tournament field in the state. Of our tournament record 17 entries, eight teams earned their way to the finals, with four teams winning championships!
Our U12 Boys team (above) coached by Hank Baron and Devin Dean took first place in their highly competitive National Division (only one pool match decided by more than 1 goal) with 2 wins and loss. In the Sunday afternoon final, they avenged their pool loss to First Coast Academy with a 4:1 victory. Of their 4 tournament entries this season, the team has earned their way to the final 4 times, capturing 2 tournament titles.
The U13 Boys team (above) coached by Jerry McCabe and Jesse Goldfarb took the U13 National Division crown by going undefeated in pool play and besting Melbourne Beach 2:0 in the final.
Club teams also winning tournament titles were our U11 Girls team (Kevin Neighbor) in the U11 National Division and our U10 Girls (Courtney Baines) playing up to the U11 Continental Division. Additionally, our U13 Boys team (Shawn Starrs) and U15 Boys team (Chris Lannon) were finalists in their divisions, and our U12 Boys (Bill Heiselman) and Girls (Carrie Terrill) teams played up to U13 and reached the finals of their divisions! Congratulations to all of the SCU teams on a successful tournament!
