U15 Premiere – 2011 Seminole Memorial Tourney Champs!

The U15 Premiere team, coached by Shawn Starrs, Ted Farmer and Gordon Wight, went to Sanford over the Memorial weekend and came back with some championship hardware. The weekend started with a 1-1 draw against a very strong Weston Swoosh side out of Miami, Manual Perez-Mena put in the first goal of the tourney for the Storm. Day 2 continued against Clay County and the Storm came ready to play with Ryan Starrs scoring the first goal after beating two defenders and the keeper then Brian Farmer scored on a break-away, while the defense scored the shut-out for a 2-0 win. The afternoon game was a lot tougher against the mighty Florida Rush Swoosh. After going down 3-1 and with only a few minutes left in the game, James Murren rolled thru the defense and put in a tough shot to bring the Storm within one then after crashing the 18 one more time the Swoosh defense gave up a PK on a hand ball which Ryan Kelleher coolly slotted into the left corner just inside the post for a 3-3 draw. The Storm finished tops in their bracket which led to a rematch against Weston Swoosh who went thru on points. The championship game was similar to the first game, and finished regulation 1-1 on a very late goal from an impossible angle by guest player Keyon Zakeri. Then after two scoreless 5 minute periods, the match went to PKs where keeper Eric Montes stood strong and Phil McKegg, Manny Perez-Mena, Grant Wight, and Ryan Kelleher all sank their PKs to bring home the championship. Great way to finish off the season and represent the Space Coast United club!

Space Coast U10 Girls Capture 1st Place at BYSL Competitive Team Playoff

Space Coast United U10 girls captured 1st place at the 2011 BYSL competitive team playoff after winning a tough match against the Melbourne Beach Tsunami with a 2-1 win.  The girls gave up a goal early in the match, but regained composure, and tied the match 1-1 prior to halftime with a strong strike by Carolina Santos that the goalkeeper fumbled.  During the 2nd half, Spacecoast’s Kylie Pulliam scored after driving hard against the defense, and sent the ball into the upper corner of the net.  Strong goalkeeping by Francesca Espinoza and Cristina Cruz during the 2nd half allowed the girls to prevail.  “This playoff championship capped off a great season with the girls playing 8 games in a row without a loss in all BYSL competition.  Excellent season long training by Spacecoast United staff and trainers including John Duguid, Richard Chisolm, Rob Dinnie and Scott Armstrong are really at the core of our success.  Additionally, 7 of the rostered players came from our YDP academy which has shown great dividends with this team” said Greg Santos, Spacecoast’s Competitive Team Director and head coach of the U10 girls.
