Score at the Shore Showcase U16 Overall Champions

Our U16 Premier Girls team coached by Richard Chisolm and Gary Mauzy took the Overall (top flight) at the prestigious 2011 Score at the Shore Showcase in Tampa.  After losing to Team Boca  0-2 in their first game, the team made adjustments and never looked back, winning 5 straight games on the way to the championship.

In the second game against Tsunami, Danielle Shorten started the scoring for the weekend with an unassisted goal, followed by a clutch late headed goal on a corner by Katie Smith to win 2-1.  The third game was a solid 3-0 win over Granite FC (New Hampshire) with 2 goals by Joy Wilkinson and a 30 yard free kick by Meghan Mauzy.  In the Quarterfinals the team had a rematch with Team Boca  and won 4-0 on outstanding goalkeeping by ’94 ODP state team goalkeeper Sami Lewin (3 wins and 1 goal against for the weekend), and goals by Jessica Smith, Julia Vega, Kayla Hayes and Joy Wilkinson.  In the Semifinals against Kendall, the team won 1-0 with a goal by Jessica Smith.  In the finals against Miami Lakes, Meghan Mauzy scored on a direct kick after Joy Wilkinson was fouled near the penalty box to tie the game at 1-1 in regulation.  In the ensuing penalty kicks, goalkeeper Kayla Hayes made two saves and forced another miss in sudden death, then Danielle Shorten made her PK to win the Championship.

Two SCUSC Teams Finish 1st at Palm Bay Fire & Fury

The Space Coast United Boys U14 Premiere competed in the Palm Bay Fire and Fury Tournament this weekend and came away with an undefeated record of 4-0!
The Storm cruised Saturday with two wins against Westside from Jacksonville 7-0 and the then a 6-0 win against host club Palm Bay.
Sunday morning saw the Storm team get behind 2-0 to the East Orange Rebels State Cup Team. In dramatic fashion the Storm managed to show their character and score 3 spectacular goals in the last 15 minutes of the game to win their 3rd game 3-2!
In the afternoon Final the Storm team faced a tough undefeated team from the other bracket, the Port St. Lucie Juventas. Getting an early 2 goal lead and then missing on a number of other chances the Storm and Juventas played an excellent game to the end with the Storm prevailing 2-1! A great weekend of soccer indeed!
The U14 Boys team is coached by Hank Baron and Alex Griffin. Go Storm!”

The Space Coast United Soccer Club’s under-11 girls Storm coached by Bill Richards defeated Central Florida Krush (White) by a final score of 2-1 to take home the U-12G Silver bracket champion’s trophy.
Sara scored for the Storm on a shot into the left side of the net with less than a minute remaining in the first half.  The Krush tied the match quickly in the second half.  After 70 minutes of regulation and overtime the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
The Storm won the ensuing shootout, 4-2, when goalkeeper Brooklynne saved Krush’s fourth shot and Anne Marie sank hers into the corner of the net.  The match was easily the most closely fought of the tournament for the Storm.
Both teams displayed excellent teamwork and ball skills throughout to generate scoring opportunities.  Both defenses excelled at shutting down those opportunities and both keepers produced numerous key saves. This is the first tournament championship for the Storm U-11 Girls who finished their regular season with an 8-1-1 record. Congratulations Storm!
