Give the West Shore Boys Team and SCUSC Coach Scott Armstrong a big high five for winning their first State Title. They defeated Berkeley Prep, 3 – 2 on their way to becoming the 2012 2A State Champs!
It is that time of year again, and our first round of Region Cup sent 10 Space Coast United teams into battle.
Coming out victorious and advancing to the next round was U11 Elite Girls coached by Greg Santos, U12 Elite Girls coached by Bill Richards, U12 Boys Elite coached by Devin Dean, and U15 Premiere team coached by Mike McGonagle.
Congratulations to all of our teams who participated, and good luck in the following rounds!

Recently in our District Finals one team had their best player out since the preseason with a knee injury and the other team had their two starting center mids out for the season with knee injuries. Is it that a fluke or a trend? Actually, it is a fact that female athletes in general have a greater risk for ACL injuries than male athletes. One study shows that females have a 5 times higher risk than males for an ACL injury. Other studies peg the risk at somewhere between 2-8 times greater for female athletes. The bottom line is that this is a real issue and one that needs to be addressed at all levels of coaching and training not only for our female athletes but for all of our athletes. What are we to do? I have done a little bit of research and found this resource to be invaluable. The program is only 15-20 minutes a session 2-3 times a week. Should every club and school incorporate this into their training sessions or in addition to their training sessions? Should every parent have their child go through this program? Check it out: http://smsmf.org/pep-program
I understand that I have proposed everything with the ball or most exercises with the ball, but from my experience and I am sure many if not all of you will agree, this simple ounce of prevention is worth a ton of cure.
Congratulations to Scott Armstrong Coach at Westshore on their win in the State final game 1 – 0.
Let’s give a shout out to all of the Space Coast Coaches who were able to have a great High School Season:
Toni Pressley put Melbourne on the Map after being selected in the 2012 WPS Draft on Fri, from humble beginnings, playing for SCSUC, to making it to the big time league, what exciting news, continuing her soccer career on a professional level, . Congratulations Toni, you’ve made our small town proud and you are a shining example for all our local hopefuls, showing our players that they too can shine like the Star you already are.
Can we say SCUSC has that Magic touch? Well, three times is the charm, and Congratulations to our three amazing players that were selected from all the players and colleges across the United States, yes our club must have that certain X factor, having three players on this Elite list is quite impressive!
And the Honor goes to……. The following Alumni players:
First Team: Katie Stengel, Third Team; Toni Pressley, and Tishia Jewell
Yes, Three times really is the Charm…….

Wake Forest’s and former SCUSC player Katie Stengel have been named to the roster for a unique training camp for the U.S. Under-23 National Team that will be led by U.S. Women’s National Team Head Coach Pia Sundhage, along with U.S. Soccer Women’s Development Director Jill Ellis and U.S. Soccer Women’s Technical Director April Heinrichs. The camp will take place at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. from Oct. 2-7.
Sundhage will be at the camp to evaluate the group of top college players and young professionals for possible call-ups to U.S. Women’s National Team camps heading into the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Vancouver, Canada in January and if all goes well there, the run to the 2012 Olympics in London. Wake Forest was one of only three schools, along with traditional powerhouses Stanford and North Carolina, to have multiple players invited to the camp.
“You have to get a good sense of what is out there as far as talent,” said Sundhage. “We are looking at a different system of play so we may need players with different qualities and we might find a few younger players that we can give a chance to come in with the Women’s National Team.”
The NSCAA just released the 2011 Watch List for the MAC Herman Trophy Award.
