Tournament Championships for Space Coast U12 Boys

Both of our U12 Boys competitive teams entered the Palm Bay Spring Challenge May 5/6 weekend, and both teams claimed championships in their respective divisions.

Our U12 Boys Elite team (coaches Devin Dean and Keith Szachacz, trainer James Phillips) entered the event in the U12 fullsided (11 v 11) first division.  The boys started off the tournament with a 4:0 win over Pinecrest Premier, and followed that up with a 3:1 decision over Clay County Red, concluding pool play in first place.  The tournament semifinal against Melbourne Beach was scoreless after regulation and overtime, proceeding to penalty kicks from the mark, with Space Coast prevailing on the 6th kick. The final was a rematch against Clay County; typical of the entire weekend, a total team effort with everyone contributing led to a 4:1 tournament final victory for Space Coast.

Our U12 Boys Premier team (coach and trainer Vlade Campo) competed in the U12 8v8 division.  After a tough start against eventual first division champion Wellington and a close loss to first division finalist First Hernando SC, the Storm found themselves seeded in the bottom half of the second division elimination bracket.  Sunday dawned with a solid 3:0 victory over First Coast Academy Red, earning a place in the tournament final against Rockledge.  Space Coast proceeded to close out their tournament title with a methodical 4:0 victory to claim the title.

Congratulations to both of our U12 Boys competitive squads on their tournament championships this weekend!

U12 Elite Girls

The U12 Elite girls powered into the Region B Cup Finals with a sweep of their Challenge Round matches on Feb 25 and 26.  In their first match, they beat local rival Indialantic Force by a score of 7-1.  Brook Walsh scored four goals; other goal scorers were Anne Marie Cawley, Ali Tosches, and Isabel Mossing.

The next two games were rematches since the Storm had lost to both teams in a tournament last November.  First up was Creeks Clash from St Johns, FL.  In the Region Cup Knockout Round just a few weeks ago, the Storm and Clash played to a 0-0 draw.  This time the Storm came out on top with a 3-0 shutout.  GK Brooklynne McGonagle cleared 6 saves in posting the clean sheet, and Walsh tallied another hat trick.  In the final match, the Storm again reversed the previous outcome.  The girls scored consistently and gave up only one resulting in a 4-1 victory and a trip to the Region Cup Finals in Jacksonville on March 31.  This time Catie Stewart scored along with Mossing, Tosches, and Walsh.

The U12 Elite girls team members are Elena Barr, Emily Bodi, Jessica Clanton, Anne Marie Cawley, Hannah Dearing, Hanna Howe, Allison McDowell, Brooklynne McGonagle, Isabel Mossing, Daniela Mordas, Catie Stewart, Alison Tosches, Sara Towers, and Brookelyn Walsh.  Bill Richards is the head coach, assisted by Brian Mossing.

U13 Girls End 2011 – Orange Classic Champs

The U13 Elite Girls Team traveled to South Florida for the Orange Classic 2011 tournament during the Holiday break and returned home as the Champions.  Scoring 11 goals during the 5 games, while only allowing only 2 goals against and achieving 3 shutouts while playing with only one sub during the semifinals and finals, the girls demonstrated their strength, teamwork and perseverance.  A great finish to 2011

U18 Boys Elite team win Lotto Invitational Cup

Our U18 Boys Elite team won the Lotto Invitational Cup tournament in Palm Coast this past weekend with Coach Scotty Armstrong.  Since there were 5 teams in the U18/U19 bracket, the champions were decided by playing four games against the other division opponents.  The boys finished with 3 wins and 1 tie to earn the championship.  All games were played in the wind, rain and muddy conditions which made every game much more interesting and entertaining than usual.  After winning our final game against an U19 squad, the team left Palm Coast prior to finding out where they would place since that wouldn’t be decided for three hours.  One player stayed around to watch the last match which would decide the team’s fate.  Even though the odds were stacked against the SCU U18 team winning, the three victories and a draw were enough to bring home the hardware, a nice first place “cup” and individual metals.  Congratulations on a great performance and total team effort!
