LIGHTNING POLICY
Please note the following SCUSC Policy:
- The "30/30 Rule" should be followed when evaluating lightning danger: if thunder is heard within 30 seconds of a lightning flash, it is too close, and activities will be suspended. Do not resume play for 30 minutes from the last seen flash or last heard thunder.
- The Head Coach, Assistant Coach or assigned Trainer of any team has the authority to cancel an individual practice based on weather conditions.
- In the event of lightning, any Board member, Staff member, or Brevard Parks and Recreation employee can close the fields until it is determined that it is safe again to play.
- In the event that play is suspended all individuals should immediately go indoors-into a building with 4 solid walls and a roof--or to their cars to wait for the storm to pass. Waiting under a pavilion should be avoided as it does not provide sufficient protection.
- Parent/Guardians are encouraged to stay near the field in order to be readily accessible to provide shelter for their child. A parent/guardian who feels uncomfortable with the weather conditions can remove their child from the field at anytime without question or repercussion from the coach or club.
